18th-21st July Welcome to the First Reading Fringe Festival! http://readingfringefestival.co.uk/ For the first time in the town’s history Reading will play host to its very own fringe festival dedicated to theatre with a sprinkling of comedy, music, film and art in July 2013. With a warm up week planned from the 11th to the 14th July for local schools and under 25s with the main week kicking off for four days from the 18th to the 21st of July.

10th August The Redding Moreys Dauncers will celebrate the first recorded morris dancing in Reading, 10th Aug 1513.
After preliminary workshops, we now have a core group of dancers and interested people who are starting to put together the performance. The aim is to create as close as possible a morris performance from the early C16th, a time when morris dance was beginning its migration from royal court entertainment, to rural cadging.
The Church Ale was an important feature in the history of morris dancing. They danced as an entertainment to draw people and get them to buy ale which in turn helped to fund the church. Later, the Puritans would ban morris dancing, along with Christmas, Easter and other forms of merriment.
